Entries coming in for ‘Quest’

With the ever-popular “Quest for the Best” slated for July 25 this year, competitors already have started signing up for the singing contest.
Chamber of Commerce manager Dawn Booth said yesterday that since the entry forms were first made available at the trade show here back on April 28-29, five entries have come in for “Kiddie Quest” and two for “Quest.”
“We’re doing really well so far this year,” she remarked.
Booth noted there’s a limit of 20 solo or duet performers for “Quest” and 10 for “Kiddie Quest,” so those wanting to participate had better get their entry forms in before they fill up.
Entry forms are available at the Chamber office (474 Scott St.) The deadline is Friday, June 9.
“Quest for the Best” is a local singing competition held annually to showcase the many talented performers in the area. It is open to anyone age 14 years and up, and solo and duet performances are eligible.
A back-up band is supplied.
The entry fee for “Quest” is $25 per person or $35 for a duet.
This year also will see the return of “Kiddie Quest,” which is open to contestants 13 years old or younger. The entry fee is $10.
Both “Quest” and “Kiddie Quest” will take place under the big tent at the Sporting Gap Marina on Tuesday, July 25. Once again, the event is being held in conjunction with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
In related news, organizers also are looking for several prize sponsors. Booth said she’ll be sending out information outlining sponsorship details to Chamber members shortly.
While the Chamber and B•93 FM are the main “Quest” sponsors, and Sears Canada has come on board again this year to sponsor “Kiddie Quest,” numerous other prizes (People’s Choice, Contestants’ Choice, Audience Response, etc.) still need sponsors, she noted.

As well, Booth said the Chamber is in the process of confirming a winner for its “Quest for the Best” logo contest, which first was announced last month.
Six entries came in prior to the May 5 deadline.
“We did choose a winner, but we’re in the process of talking to the person who submitted the logo to see if they can tweak it a little to our specifications,” Booth said.
“So, unfortunately, nothing has been announced yet because we’re waiting to hear back from her as to whether she’s interested in making the changes we’ve requested.
“Hopefully in the next couple days, we’ll have a definite answer.”
The winner of the logo contest will receive $100, two tickets to this year’s “Quest for the Best,” and special mention during the event.
