ENGAGE group to try skeet shooting

ENGAGE, the local young professionals network, has planned another outing set to go next week.
A group of individuals aged 20-35 will be heading out skeet shooting at the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. where their instructor Brad Houghton will show them how it’s done.
“I’ve really never done any of that,” admitted Maria Ciotti, development and planning co-ordinator with the RRFDC.
“It’s going to be a new experience for me and I’m sure a good handful of us, it will be pretty new, too,” she added.
The social network, which held it’s first event—a mix and mingle—last fall, aims to engage young people to explore recreation and civic opportunities in the Fort Frances area.
The group hosted a second mix-and-mingle event at the Copper River Inn, as well as an ice-fishing outing in February.
The skeet shooting outing will be the first event since the ice-fishing.
Given a limited amount of space for the activity, Ciotti explained the outing is already at capacity.
“We have about 16 people going,” she said, noting there is a good mixture of people new to the area and locals.
She explained ENGAGE focuses on getting people out, especially those who are not from the Rainy River District and would like to go out and do what people around here do.
“But perhaps they don’t have the connections or the knowledge to do it on their own,” she expressed.
Even though the skeet shooting activity is full, Ciotti noted they will considering hosting the event again so other people would have a chance to attend.
But she added that depends on how the event goes and if the instructor is willing to do it again.
Ciotti indicated she doesn’t know what event will be planned next, but if anyone has any ideas they can let her know.
