In order to help address the labour market shortage, the Town of Fort Frances, Rainy River Future Development Corp., NCDS, and Northwest Training and Adjustment Board are organizing a hiring fair to help employers find the right people for the job.
But in order to have such a fair, which is slated for Tuesday, May 2 from 3-7 p.m. at the Copper River Inn here, organizers need employers to take part.
“Our current goal is 20 employers and if we exceed that, we will try to find additional space for employer tables,” local economic development consultant Tannis Drysdale told the Times.
Tables are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Drysdale suggested employers who participate should bring applications and ads of positions they have open, along with job descriptions if they have them.
The hiring fair is a unique opportunity for employers to showcase their company and recruit new talent, and also for those looking for employment to see some of what’s available in one convenient location.
The hiring fair is the next step in an ongoing effort to help employers fill empty positions.
“We have taken on a number of initiatives this year to help employers with the labour market shortage that we are experiencing,” noted Drysdale.
“You may recall we hired a speaker [customer service expert Roy Prevost] to help small businesses better understand how to reach out into the market to find employees a few months ago,” she said.
Drysdale added organizers are excited that NTAB has come on board to support the event, along with NCDS, the RRFDC, and the town.
In other news, the RRFDC still is looking for individuals, groups, and businesses to sponsor the few remaining baskets for this year’s “Project Petunia” campaign.
The cost is $50 to sponsor a basket.
As in past years, the flower baskets will be hung from light poles lining King’s Highway from Tim Hortons to the tourist information centre.
Sponsors can “dedicate” flower baskets to family members, friends, loved ones, or important causes while keeping the town looking beautiful this summer.
Sponsors also are publicly recognized. Last year, an ad listing them was published in the Times.
