Members of the town’s Administration and Finance Committee are thanking the members of the local Emergency Management team amidst a routine updating and review of the town’s Emergency Management Program.

During this week’s committee meeting, Fort Frances Fire Chief Tyler Moffitt provided a brief update to the committee members on the program updating, noting that a majority of the changes made to the plan have been “basic housekeeping.”

“We completed the 2022 annual review of the Town of Fort Frances Emergency Management Program and some changes to the plan were made this year to keep it consistent with the current legislation and the government direction.,” Moffitt said.

Included changes listed in Moffitt’s report are things like updating the formatting of the plan due to using newer software, reflecting the changing names of some ministries involved, and adding the Fort Frances Airport to the list of alternate locations for the town’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

While the updates made to the plan are routine, council members sitting on the committee thanked Moffitt and town by-law officer Patrick Briere for the hard work they did preparing the report, as well as the entire emergency management group for their work over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I want to compliment Chief Moffitt and by-law officer Patrick,” said coun. Andrew Hallikas.

“This [report] was brought to the municipal control group, but all the work was done, so these two fellows have done some extraordinary work in putting this all together, and they do it year after year so when it came to the municipal control group, we didn’t really have to do very much at all, so this is just another example of how our employees behind the scenes do so much really good work for us.”

“I know that the emergency management group is put together and in some cases rarely meet, but of course in the last two years they’ve been very, very busy,” coun. Wendy Brunetta added.

“So I just want to thank them for all of their input, I think it’s been a long couple of years and hopefully you’ll have some reprieve soon.”

The Emergency Management Program plan will be back before council for their April 25 meeting.
