The local Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) group is hosting a presentation, entitled “Building a Better Relationship: Working to prevent elder abuse,” this Saturday (April 30) at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Sports Centre auditorium.
“Elder abuse affects more people than we are aware of because it is so under-reported,” noted S.A.L.T. member Becky Holden.
“This presentation is a great way for families to learn more about elder abuse so their loved ones don’t become victims,” she stressed.
Holden said the presentation is not only for seniors, but also their family members.
The talk, presented by Raj Sud of the OPP, will focus on the signs and symptoms of elder abuse, why seniors are reluctant to report elder abuse, and how families are affected by elder abuse.
It also will introduce a restorative practice model to increase communication and prevent elder abuse.
The presentation is being held in conjunction with the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s Home & Leisure Show, which will be taking place on the main level of the Memorial Sports Centre.
