Early morning mill fire shuts down paper machine

The No. 5 paper machine at the mill here is temporarily shut down, following a fire there early this morning.
Mill crews responded to a fire between the No. 5 paper machine and the stock preparation area around 3 a.m., at which time the Fort Frances Fire Department also was called.
The small fire, the cause of which is as yet unknown, was put out in about half-an-hour, during which time no injuries occurred.
The No. 5, 6 and 7 paper machines had to be shut down, but the latter two were up and running again later this morning. No. 5 continues to be shut down as repairs are being made in the basement area.
It’s expected to be operational by tomorrow.
Some small pumps and power cables sustained damage in the fire.
