With a mix of rain, snow,, and low temperatures in the forecast this week, motorists should take heed—you can’t keep driving like it’s summertime.
“People need to be cognizant of the changing weather conditions, the snow and freezing rains that can cause icy conditions on the roadways,” Fort Frances OPP Cst. Dereck McLean stressed this morning.
“They have to adjust their speeds accordingly, plan ahead, and take their time to reach their destination,” he added.
Drivers also should leave ample time to let their vehicle warm up, and be sure it’s free of any ice or snow that may restrict visibility, before getting behind the wheel.
“With the first snowfall of the year, there is always a little bit of an adjustment period for people,” said Cst. McLean. “We ask they take their time and reduce their speed—that’s the biggest thing.
“Just be aware there could be ice on the roadway, or black ice on the roadway, at any time in the colder weather.”
Cst. McLean added that, thankfully, there hasn’t been many reports of any accidents yet.
