Draw for Halifax trip coming up

A trip for two to Halifax could cost just $5—if you win the upcoming “Friends of the Library” draw on Valentine’s Day, that is.
The trip, valued at $2,000, includes airfare for two, three nights’ accommodation, and $500 in spending money.
“The $500 in spending money is worth $5,” said Friends president Jean Boileau.
In addition to airfare and accommodation, this first prize also includes a day trip to nearby Peggy’s Cove from the Aberdeen Tour company, tickets to the Nova Scotia Kitchen Party concert, and the Harbour Hopper—a unique bus tour that takes passengers around the city of Halifax and then on a boat cruise of the harbour.
Depending on when the winner decides to go (they can take it any time within a year of the draw), they also could receive tickets to the annual Celtic Colours International Festival—which features hundreds of Celtic musicians, artists, and story-tellers throughout the province.
Second prize is framed print by Nova Scotia artist Neil Depew that depicts the Peggy’s Cove lighthouse in a storm.
Tickets cost $5 each, which can be purchased from any “Friends” member or at the library itself. But don’t wait too long, urged Boileau, because the draw will be made Feb. 14 at 4 p.m.
Funds from the draw will go towards further improvements at the Fort Frances Public Library.
“We’re trying to put an addition to the south wall of the library to accommodate the circulation and distribution of materials for staff,” noted Boileau.
This fundraiser is one of many going towards the expansion project, including a bake sale and loonie draw slated for Feb. 14 and the annual dinner/dance in October.
“We’re going to be selling cookies for a long time to pay for this,” admitted Betty McLeod, an executive member of “Friends of the Library.”
The group hopes to raise $3,000-$4,000 with this draw.
The “Friends of the Library” meet on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m., with their next one slated tomorrow (Jan. 17). Everyone is welcome.
