District urged to ‘Think Pink’

Press Release

Everyone is encouraged to wear pink on Oct. 22, which has been declared “Pink Out Day” by the Rainy River District Breast Health Network.
“It’s a special year for us,” explained network chair Teresa Hazel.
“The Riverside Breast Health Program is celebrating its 25th anniversary and we want everyone to come together to show the importance of breast cancer awareness,” she noted.
From schools, homes, stores, banks, and businesses to men, women, and children–everyone is being asked to “Think Pink” on Oct. 22.
“Decorate your doors, windows, offices, or classrooms, and your cars, too,” Hazel encouraged.
“We’re even asking men if they’re man enough to wear pink,” she chuckled.
Since this is an off-year for the “Luncheon of Hope,” the network has a few other activities planned, starting with an open house to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Riverside Breast Health Program.
The public is encouraged to come out and celebrate the success and longevity of this visionary program next Wednesday (Oct. 13) from 2-4 p.m.
Then “Pink Out Day” will be held Oct. 22, where those who dress up are asked to give $1 and donate it to Riverside Foundation for Health Care for a new digital mammography unit.
The final event for October will be “Say Good Night to Breast Cancer,” which is being held Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Little Beaver Cultural Centre.
“This will be a fun night out for women,” Hazel enthused. “You can come in your PJ’s or come as you are, and enjoy some warmth and wellness with friends.”
From pink popcorn to tips on how to prepare for a restful and rejuvenating sleep, “Say Good Night to Breast Cancer” will focus on the importance of women taking care of themselves in the fight against the disease.
“There is much research on the disease-fighting activity that takes place while you sleep,” Hazel noted.
“We want all women to realize the importance of proper sleep . . . and we also want women to come out and have some fun with their girlfriends!” she added.
