District to receive disaster relief funding

Communities across Rainy River District that suffered varying degrees of damage and loss because of severe weather July 31 will receive disaster relief funding.
Northern Development and Mines minister Dan Newman announced yesterday that eight municipalities, including Fort Frances, and two unorganized areas will receive funding through the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program.
“I am proud that our government is responding to the severity of the situation in the northwest,” Newman said. “This program will give northerners access to much-needed assistance.”
The other municipalities to receive funding include La Vallee, Emo, Chapple, Morley, Dawson, Lake of the Woods, and Rainy River, as well as the Dance Statute Labour Board and Tupman Lake Road Association.
Financial aid will be provided for damages or losses of principal residence and property not covered by insurance.
Strong winds, torrential downpours, and flooding–which tore through the district three different times on July 31–damaged roads, homes, and barns.
