As the campaign to bring advanced diagnostic imaging equipment to the district nears the finish line, local restaurants are stepping up to help it get there.
The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is announcing The Great Burger Giveback fundraiser, an initiative bringing together several Fort Frances and Rainy River District area restaurants to help raise money to support Riverside Health Care’s “Lights, Camera, DIAGNOSIS!” campaign to bring an MRI machine and other high-tech medical diagnostic imaging equipment to the region. According to the Chamber, The Flint House, La Place Rendez-Vous, the Harbourage and Boston Pizza in Fort Frances, along with The Back Alley Bar and Grill in Emo, have all come together to take part in the fundraiser. Each restaurant has created a specialty burger that will be available throughout the month of June, and a portion of each burger sold will be donated directly to Riverside’s campaign.
Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce and Downtown BIA marketing and events planner Rhonda Howells said the initiative began out of a desire to help support Riverside’s campaign, which is closing in on their $1.6 million goal, while also finding a way to help support local restaurants, all while letting the community get in on something delicious.
“The Great Burger Giveback not only highlights the creativity of local chefs and restaurants but also demonstrates the strong spirit of community support that Fort Frances and the surrounding area are known for,” Howells said.
“Residents and visitors are encouraged to try one — or all — of the featured burgers during June and help make a difference for local health care.”
Riverside’s Lights, Camera, DIAGNOSIS! Campaign has been working to raise money to bring advanced diagnostic imaging equipment to Rainy River District hospitals, including its first MRI machine, as well as new, high-tech X-ray machines for La Verendrye General Hospital and the Rainy River Health Centre.
Hungry health care supporters in the region have the entirety of June to try out the specialty burgers, so be sure to visit a participating restaurant soon to help health care close to home.
“Every burger purchased helps support improved diagnostic services close to home, ensuring residents can access important medical imaging services without having to travel long distances,” Howells said.
“The campaign is another example of local businesses stepping up to support initiatives that benefit the entire community.”
