District commander to visit local Legion ladies

Zone #7 District Commander Bonnie Faulds of Kenora will be making her official visit to Fort Frances next Wednesday (Oct. 13).
Faulds was elected and installed as district commander at the Zone #7 annual district meeting held in Rainy River in 2003.
Prior to becoming district commander, she had served as deputy to District Commander Alfreda Easton (Fort Frances), who now has become third vice-president of the provincial council.
Pearl Brown of Keewatin was elected as deputy and will accompanying Faulds here.
A potluck supper will be held first at 6.30 p.m., followed by the meeting. All auxiliary members are encouraged to attend both the supper and the business meeting.
In other news, the Br. #29 Ladies Auxiliary resumed its regular monthly meetings Sept. 8 with 43 members in attendance.
The charter was draped in memory of our recently-departed members, Isobel Busch and Alyce Lambert.
President Silvia welcomed everyone to the meeting and extended a hearty thank you to all who had contributed to the auxiliary over the past two extremely busy months.
Marnie Hill was initiated into the auxiliary and was warmly welcomed by all.
The usual reports from the various officers were given and acted upon accordingly.
Correspondence included many thank-you letters from assorted charities for donations received. As well, letters were received from Jordan Botsford and Heather Patterson for the bursaries they received from our auxiliary.
The colour party was kept busy this summer, attending six district-wide parades and three funerals. Sgt.-at-Arms Helen Matheson thanked all who participated.
The birthday draw winner for August was Dot Caul while Alfreda Easton won for September. The attendance winner was Nancy Shaw.
Meanwhile, plans are well under way for the Remembrance Day tea which is to be held Sunday, Nov. 7 from 2-4 p.m. If you wish to help in way, please speak to Alfreda and she will be pleased to answer any questions you may have.
Dates have been set for work bees for perogies, cabbage rolls, etc. Please contact Yvonne Chambers if you can help.
Dee Ducharme has the raffle tickets and members should contact her to pick up their books to sell. It’s only fair that all members do their part by selling raffle tickets.
This year, the prizes are a deacon’s bench and Fort Frances centennial quilt and rack. Check them out at Green’s Furniture.
In order to raise funds for colour party expenses, both the local Legion branch and ladies auxiliary are holding fish fry suppers in September and October.
Please come out and support this important venture—we all enjoy seeing our colour party in parades, but it does cost money to attend even in the local area.
Watch for the posters around town.
After the meeting ended, a delicious lunch was served.
A reminder the auxiliary’s next monthly meeting is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 13, beginning with the potluck supper.
