The Town of Fort Frances is asking residents to ensure their sump pumps for their weeping tile systems are not connected to the sanitary sewer system.
If they are, they must disconnect them immediately.
Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown told the Times this morning that as a result of the significant rainfall over the last 24 hours, the sewage treatment plant went into by-pass mode as of 5:10 a.m.
Sections of the sanitary sewer collection system are operating at maximum capacity, he added.
Residents also are asked to refrain from discharging wastewater from their homes into the sanitary sewer system until further notice as localized basement flooding is occurring.
