Local delegates are in Ottawa until Wednesday to attend the annual conference of the Association of Ontario Municipalities.
Mayor Roy Avis is joined by Couns. Andrew Hallikas and Paul Ryan, as well as Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig.
The four will take in three days of panels, discussions, and keynote speeches on a variety of municipal topics led by industry experts.
They also are expected to meet with Energy minister Chris Bentley regarding the possible future consolidation of hydro distribution companies, as well as Environment minister Jim Bradley about recycling costs.
As well, they’re slated to meet with Natural Resources minister Michael Gravelle about the provincial “BearWise” program; Linda Jeffrey, the minister responsible for seniors, regarding assisted living; and Health and Long-Term Care minister Deb Matthews about doctor recruitment for Fort Frances.
Local delegates have joined more than 1,600 participants from hundreds of municipalities across Ontario at the 2012 AMO conference,
This year’s theme is “A Capital Idea!” The focus is on current and emerging Ontario municipal interests.
The program features almost 50 plenary sessions and workshops, and more than 75 speakers, reflecting the broad scope of municipal responsibilities, according to AMO.
