Deadline for queen entries tomorrow

After deciding last week to extend the entry deadline for this year’s Fun in the Sun queen pageant until tomorrow, organizers still are looking for more contestants to vie for the crown.
Dawn Booth, a Fun in the Sun committee member, who has teamed up with Sherri Puddicombe and Cheryl McCallum to organize the pageant, said this morning there currently are four confirmed participants.
“We’ll have someone in the high school today and tomorrow to see if there’s any more interest there. And we have contracts at the Chamber office here,” she remarked.
Booth noted the minimum number of participants is four, but that at least a couple more would be ideal. “The more, the merrier,” she said.
Participants must be aged 15-19 by May 1, 2004, a resident of Rainy River District, of good character, and willing to conduct themselves in an exemplary manner.
As in previous years, queen contestants will take part in a variety of events and activities later this month, including the Strawberry Social, Teddy Bears Picnic, Mini-Queen pageant, and Canada Day parade, as well as participating in the entertainment night (June 27) and crowning (July 1).
Contestants also must be available, if crowned queen or princess, to make personal appearances at important community events, as well as represent Fun in the Sun in a professional manner, throughout the year they hold the title.
Each contestant must find a business sponsor(s) to cover their entry fee of $250. In addition, they will sell buttons throughout the rest of this month.
Participants are rewarded for their efforts with various scholarships and prizes, as well as the title of “Miss Fun in the Sun.” Details for prizes still are being worked out.
Anyone interested in entering the queen pageant can contact Booth (274-5773) or Puddicombe (274-6617) by the end of the day tomorrow.
They also can drop by the Chamber of Commerce office, located at 474 Scott St. (across from Safeway).
