Deadline for boater certification nearing

Press Release

Boaters need to remember that Sept. 15 is the deadline in Canada for all recreational operators of any motorized watercraft to have a “Pleasure Craft Operator Card” or they risk expensive fines no less than $250 if caught boating without one.
With the deadline less than one week away, roughly 10 million boaters still need the card.
Boaters continue to turn to the Internet to get certified online at www.BoaterExam.com in time.
BoaterExam.com’s official web site is open for business 24/7, the study material is free online, and so are re-tries if you happen to fail.
The 36-question, multiple-choice exam requires a 75 percent mark to receive a passing grade.
Boaters can print a temporary card as soon as they pass online, and their permanent card is mailed to their home in a few weeks.
The card is good for life.
This law applies to all ages, there is no age exemption, and no minimum age to get certified. There are, however, age/horsepower restrictions for operators under 16 years of age.
“BoaterExam.com gives boaters an accessible and convenient way to get certified online,” said spokesman Robert Dupel.
“We are encouraging boaters to get certified now so they are legal, but also so they avoid paying more in the future as the price will likely increase and there’s also a good chance the exam becomes more complicated,” he added.
For boaters who have lost or misplaced their operator card, they can call BoaterExam.com’s toll-free boating safety info line at 1-866-688-2628 (open from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. CDT daily) to verify that their name is on file in BoaterExam.com’s central database of customers and obtain a replacement card.
BoaterExam.com is a Transport Canada-accredited course provider and the largest issuer of Pleasure Craft Operator Cards in the country.
A French site also is available at www.ExamenBateau.com
