Deadline extended for FITS entrants

The deadline to register for this year’s “Fun in the Sun” queen pageant has been extended another week as organizers are holding out for a couple more contestants.
“I’ve got three, so I need two more,” said organizer Melissa Gushulak, noting the deadline, which previously had been set for May 3, now will be next Thursday (May 10).
Gushulak added she needs a minimum of five girls, and hopes to have at least that many confirmed by next week.
But she stressed that next Thursday is a firm deadline. Because she wants to get going with organizing activities for the contestants, she won’t extend it again.
“We need two more, or else it will be cancelled,” Gushulak warned.
Registration forms are now available at the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce office (474 Scott St.)
Contestants are eligible if they are aged 15-18 as of May 1, 2007, have a sponsor, are able to sell buttons with their photos on them, and be available to participate in community events throughout the next year (up to July 1, 2008).
Gushulak said she’s looking for contestants who are committed, with a good attitude, want to meet new people, and are outgoing.
She explained all the contestants also must find an area business—whether it be based in Fort Frances, Couchiching, Emo, Devlin, Barwick, or anywhere else in the district—to sponsor them for $300.
This sponsorship even could be split between more than one business.
In return, the contestants wear a banner with their sponsor’s name on it and promote their sponsor at every event they attend.
“If anyone has any questions, or if they’re having trouble finding a sponsor, they can call me and I can maybe think of some sponsors or help them out in some way,” noted Gushulak.
Anyone interested in participating in the FITS queen pageant should contact either Gushulak at 274-5206 or last year’s royalty (Queen Allyssa Holliday, First Princess Liz Black, and Second Princess Shanna Ewald) at Fort High.
