Date set for Santa Claus parade

Mark the first Saturday of December on your calendars!

Santa Claus will be coming to town that day as part of the annual Christmas parade in downtown Fort Frances.

The parade is slated for Saturday, Dec. 7. Start time is 5 p.m. with lineup to begin at 3:30 p.m. and float judging to take place at 4:15 p.m.

The parade route will be the same as in recent years, beginning at Reid Avenue (the library parking lot) and then heading west on Scott Street, ending at Mowat Avenue, said Scott Krienke-Turvey, who’s spearheaded three of the past four parades and has taken the lead once again.

The theme this year is “Crazy Christmas Trees.”

The theme not only is festive, but it also ties into the BIA’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the post office on Nov. 30 to cap off the “Festival of Frost” that day.

“Festival of Frost” will run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in downtown Fort Frances, with the tree lighting to take place at 5 p.m.

As in past years, there will be prizes awarded for the best-looking floats.

Those with questions, or interested in registering a group for the parade, can go to the website which was updated earlier this week.

They also can email Krienke-Turvey at or check out the Facebook page “Fort Frances Christmas Parade 2019.”
