Are you ready to put on your dancing shoes and get into the swing of things?
No? Well, you still have some time to sign up.
The Fort Dance Studio is putting its best foot forward for a Sept. 13 launch. Although registration is slated Aug. 11 and 18 at La Place Rendez-Vous, more than 100 people already have signed up.
The studio is offering classes in ballet, jazz, tap, and the all-encompassing dance fusion, which brings together cultural dance mixes including swing, Celtic, and hip-hop.
There also will be a class for babies called “Dance with your baby.” Classes for toddlers and kindergarten-aged kids also are being offered–and quickly filling up.
Instructors Sherree Martin and Borka Gauthier will keep the students on their toes. Martin has been teaching for three years and Gauthier for six but both have been dancing since they were kids.
“Our philosophy is that ballet is the foundation of all dance. No matter what program you take, you will learn your basics in ballet,” noted Gauthier.
“As much as structure and discipline are important, fun and enjoyment are, too.
“I like sharing the love and music and dance with others,” she added. “It’s the freedom of expression and enjoying the different types of music.”
“I’ve always [danced] since I was a kid,” echoed Martin. “I like working with kids and I especially like the choreography
“Keeping in shape is a big thing, too,” she stressed.
Gauthier said they hope to compete in the National Music Festival, the Emo and Dryden fairs, and Culturama.
Gauthier said they also will try to organize a dance theatre show similar to dinner theatre programs offered in the past. The duo are even looking at donating money raised from dance recitals to a local charity.
Lessons will run in the evening from Monday to Thursday. Details, schedules, and prices are listed in brochures at Sooters, Clendenning’s, Suds and Tubs, and the library.
The location of the studio will be announced shortly.
