In yet another sign that spring is on its way, Beta Sigma Phi’s “Daffodil Day” is returning here Friday, March 26.
Now in its 35th year, the annual event sees Beta Sigma Phi volunteers raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society by the sale of live daffodils.
“The daffodil is a symbol of hope for the volunteers of the Canadian Cancer Society—the hope that some day a cure for cancer will be found,” said Taunia Klem, president of the local Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
“Research happens because of the donation of time and dollars from caring people in the community,” she stressed.
“Daffodils symbolize hope; and hope blooms when you buy daffodils,” Klem added.
Pre-order sheets are being distributed to most businesses around town, so businesses—as well as individuals—can place their orders ahead of time.
Those interested in purchasing daffodils can do so at these local businesses, she noted.
They cost $7 per bunch, or $12 for two bunches.
The flowers will arrive March 25, with Beta Sigma Phi members cutting them in preparation for being delivered to the businesses the following day, Klem explained.
“It’s a great cause,” enthused Klem, encouraging people to support the annual event.
“Cancer is such a prevalent disease in our community [and] the world, so it’s definitely a great cause,” she added.
Paper daffodils also are being sold at McDonald’s Restaurant, The Place, and Boston Pizza for $2 each.
