Press Release
The Rainy River District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Sharla MacKinnon to the position of elementary curriculum coach, effective March 22, 2010.
The elementary curriculum coach will work closely with the board’s elementary literacy and numeracy co-ordinators to support the implementation of differentiated instruction, oral language instruction, teacher moderation, and Critical Learning Instructional Pathways at the school level.
The coach will provide job-embedded professional development through observation, co-planning, and co-teaching to support increased student achievement.
MacKinnon currently is teaching at J.W. Walker School, and has 11 years of classroom experience within the primary and junior levels.
Through her role as student achievement teacher at J.W. Walker, she has facilitated professional learning communities, delivered numeracy and literacy professional development, and worked collaboratively with staff to develop Critical Learning Instructional Pathways.
This has provided her with a strong background in “best teaching practices” and current assessment strategies.
“I am truly excited to be joining the program support team,” said MacKinnon.
“I am looking forward to continuing to build capacity within the Rainy River District School Board in our efforts to increase student success and achievement,” she added.
