Curling club lands grant

The Fort Frances Curling Club will be ready to “rock the house” next season thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to repair the roof.
Local MPP Howard Hampton congratulated the club Friday night during its mixed open bonspiel.
“The Fort Frances Curling Club is a very important community facility and I’m pleased that the Ontario Trillium Foundation is funding the much-needed repairs,” Hampton said.
“I want to thank the countless volunteers who give so much time and effort into supporting this club.”
“We will use this grant to hire a contractor to repair the roof of our curling club and replace any damaged insulation,” noted club president Maureen Thomson.
“We are thankful for the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s commitment to sports and recreation in our community.
“We’ve been successfully operating in our present facility since 1992 without any major updates or renovations,” Thomson noted.
“It’s now time to repair and renovate our club so it can remain a safe, inviting facility for people of our community and surrounding area to use for sport, socializing, and community and private events.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, receives funds annually from Ontario’s charity casino initiative.
It allocates grants to eligible charitable and not-for-profit organizations in the arts and culture, environment, human and social sciences, and sports and recreation sectors.
