Crisis centre gets teachers’ support

The Atikokan Crisis Centre received donations from three branches of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario on Monday night totalling $1,000.
Representatives from the elementary teachers local, occasional teachers local, and the educational support personnel were on hand at Monday’s meeting here to present the funds, which came from the local groups and was matched by the provincial organization.
Local ETFO president Gary Gamsby said there were two main reasons they decided to support the crisis centre.
“One reason is that the elementary teaching profession is largely women,” he said. “[Secondly], this is a service that provides assistance to children.
“We, as teachers, are in the business of helping children,” he noted.
