Councils to face off in snowshoe challenge

The annual “Sister City Snowshoe Challenge,” which pits Fort Frances town council against its International Falls counterparts as part of “Icebox Days” festivities there, goes tonight at 7 p.m. at Smokey Bear Park.
Dubbed by the International Falls Chamber of Commerce as the fastest “Icebox Days” event in history, Mayor Dan Onichuk and crew will be gunning to wrest the title away from International Falls.
Bragging rights and a travelling trophy are at stake.
The team drafted to represent Fort Frances also includes Couns.
Rick Wiedenhoeft and Struchan Gilson, Clerk Glenn Treftlin, Community Services manager George Bell, and Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown.
Information Technology manager Darryl Allan is the alternate.
While the Falls team still was being finalized at last report, Mayor Harry Swendsen definitely will lead the troops, followed by Couns. John McCarthy and Gail Rognerud, City Attorney Joe Boyle, and police Sgt. Willi Kostiuk.
