Town council is expected to award multiple tenders during its regular meeting tonight at the Civic Centre.
Council will vote on a bylaw to award the tender for curbside garbage and recycling material collection services to Asselin Transportation.
The five-year contract includes:
•a five-day cycle of curbside collection of residential waste at a total cost of $708,198.80;
•bi-weekly curbside collection of co-mingled recycling material at a total cost of $369,944.80; and
•bi-weekly supply and emptying of dumpsters at town facilities at a total cost of $48,950.
Asselin Transportation was the only contractor that placed a bid on the tender.
Council also is expected to award a tender to Associate Engineering to change out de-watering equipment at the sewage treatment plant at an estimated cost of $139,809 (plus HST).
As well, council will vote on a bylaw to authorize the entering into of certain contracts with respect to the provision of janitorial services for 2015.
If passed, S&A Cleaners will clean at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre while Nicolson Janitorial Services will clean the Civic Centre, Fort Frances Power Corp., and OPP offices, as well as the Fort Frances Museum.
Marianne Hellesoe will provide janitorial services at the Public Works building while Tom Piotrowski will clean the Fort Frances Children’s Complex.
Council also is expected to hire BDO Canada LLP as its auditor for 2015.
The council portion of tonight’s meeting is estimated start around 6:30 p.m.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., but be in-camera to discuss five items.
Other business of tonight’s agenda includes:
•a report from Community Services manager Jason Kabel on gas tax program funding;
•a report from Kabel re: the Museum Advisory Committee;
•an Environmental Systems Research Institute Small Government Enterprise agreement for GIS software;
•a recommendation re: a water issue at 911 Smith Ave.;
•a recommendation re: a request to waive late tax fees;
•Minutes of Settlement for property located at 540 King’s Highway;
•a request from Tom Veert Contracting to purchase property in the industrial park;
•a request from the Police Services Board re: inclusion in the town’s insurance policy;
•several travel/per diem claims for councillors;
•a report re: user fees at Memorial Sports Centre;
•a request from Rainy River Future Development Corp. chair Janice Beazley re: RRFDC per capita contribution for 2015-16;
•a recommendation from Police Services Board chair John McTaggart that funds from the OPP auction be advanced to the Community Policing Committee;
•a bylaw to approve an agreement with the minister of agriculture, food, and rural affairs through its Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF FC-0091);
•a bylaw to approve an agreement with the minister of transportation for financing under the Dedicated Gas Tax Funds for Public Transportation Program;
•a bylaw to impose certain user fees for 2015;
•a request from the Rainy River District Municipal Association for nominations; and
•a request for support of Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation’s application for funding under the Small Communities Fund.
