Council to review tax assessment

The owners of the property at 306 1/2 Third St. E. have requested a tax adjustment from the Town of Fort Frances as the building was demolished following a fire back in November.
Council will vote tonight on whether to approve the adjustment for the period of Nov. 8, 2006-Dec. 31, 2007.
The Administration and Finance executive committee has recommended council approve the request.
Council has invited the owners of the property to attend a public hearing immediately following the committee of the whole meeting this afternoon to speak to the application, if they wish.
Other business at tonight’s council meeting includes:
•a request from the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship regarding staff assistance with raising and lowering the events tent at the Sorting Gap Marina;
•a financial request from Child Find regarding advertising in the Child Find news magazine; and
•a request from Crime Stoppers regarding street signage;
The public session of the committee of the whole is expected to begin at 6:15 p.m., with the council meeting getting underway at 7 p.m.
