Council has a full agenda this evening with three presentations lined up to go.
Most timely of all will be a presentation regarding “November is Go Local Month” from consultant Tannis Drysdale.
As previously reported, local businesses are being urged to band together and participate in a “Go Local” campaign to help keep consumer dollars here.
The “Go Local” project here is made possible by the Rainy River Future Development Corp. and the Town of Fort Frances, with grant support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. (NOHFC) and FedNor.
Council also will hear a quarterly activity report for the months of July through September from regional economic developer Geoff Gillon of the RRFDC.
As well, Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig will provide a progress report on the town’s a strategic plan, “Realities . . . Challenges . . . Opportunities.”
The public portion of tonight’s committee of the whole meeting is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m.
It will be followed by the regular meeting of council at 6:37 p.m.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•appointments to various boards and committees;
•a report re: a request from George Armstrong Co. Ltd. to purchase portions of Pit Road #2 and Emo Road;
•a report re: the Fort Frances Community Garden request for erection of fencing and filling of water tanks;
•a report re: a request from Green Manor residents to designate on-street parking spaces on Shevlin Avenue;
•a report re: a lease with CNR for planting trees on their property;
•a report re: renewal of an agreement with OCWA for the operations and maintenance of the sewage treatment plant;
•a report re: renewal of an Information Technology (IT) consulting contract with Darryl Allan;
•a report re: rent increase at 501 Sixth St. W.;
•expense claims for Mayor Roy Avis and Couns. John Albanese and Andrew Hallikas;
•a public meeting re: 357/358 Applications for Tax Adjustment re: 818 Phair Ave. (2012) and a lane on and part of Shevlin Ave. (2012);
•a request from the Sunset Country Métis to proclaim Nov. 16 as “Louis Riel Day” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a joint request from the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) and Assisted Living Action Group (A.L.A.G.) re: identifying potential building sites for use as an assisted living facility;
•a request from the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association re: support of a memo and resolution from the City of Thunder Bay regarding the suspension of the conversion of the Thunder Bay Generating Station;
•a resolution from the Economic Development Advisory Committee re: the tourist information centre building here;
•a request from J. Glueheisen re: council support of a bid for Fort Frances Hockeyville 2013;
•a bylaw to approve an amendment to an agreement with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) for financing of the biomass road, water and sewer project under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund;
•a bylaw to approve an amended memorandum of understanding with the Fort Frances Public Library Board with respect to 601 Reid Ave.;
•a bylaw to authorize a funding agreement with the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development to allow Fort Frances to host evacuees from the Sandy Lake Reserve threatened by fire;
•a bylaw to approve an agreement with the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board for the provision of children’s services by the Children’s Complex; and
•an invitation to the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) gala on Friday, Nov. 16 at La Place Rendez-Vous.
