Council to get update on web presence

The Town of Fort Frances recently improved its Internet accessibility, and council will get to hear all about it during two presentations at tonight’s regular meeting.
First, Internet technology consultant Darryl Allan will speak about the town’s revamped website at
The site, which was launched in its new form Nov. 10, was redesigned by the Times Web Design team not only to be more user-friendly, but to tie in with current branding the town has adopted in recent years.
Clerk Glenn Treftlin, meanwhile, will speak about the how the implementation of a web-based service called iCompass Meeting Management Solution has been proceeding.
In simplest terms, this service allows for the electronic preparation and distribution of agendas and similar materials both for council and administrative use, as well as for public access.
For example, when Treftlin and administrative staff are preparing a council agenda on the Thursday before a Monday meeting, the agenda is published on a FilePro site on the Internet.
By accessing the town’s website, users can click on the “Council Business” button on the front page, and find themselves linked to a separate page containing council agendas and meeting minutes from 2010 and 2011.
Treftlin said administration has been working on getting the service up and running for the past couple of years, but it only has been in service for the past three meetings or so.
Tonight’s meeting is scheduled to start at 6:07 p.m. The committee of the whole will meet first starting at 5:30 p.m.
