Council will hear a presentation tonight from Union Gas district manager Glenn Burton regarding project updates in the Town of Fort Frances.
Last year, Union Gas started a major project to replace its natural gas distribution services here.
The two-year project involves replacing its steel natural gas lines with two- and four-inch yellow medium density plastic lines, as well as service replacements and hook-ups and other equipment rebuilds and replacements.
This work was primarily done in the west and north ends of town.
Council also is expected to receive a recommendation regarding remuneration for the incoming council this December.
While council previously had approved a pay hike along with other amendments to policy earlier this year, Mayor Roy Avis requested at the April 12 council meeting that the decision be reviewed.
He explained that when the Ontario budget was put forward March 25, both Premier Dalton McGuinty and Finance minister Dwight Duncan invited municipalities to follow the province’s lead in instituting a two-year wage freeze for provincial employees.
The public portion of tonight’s council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:25 p.m.
It will be preceded by the in-camera committee of the whole meeting at 5:30 p.m.
