Council seeking input on street closure

After holding a public meeting Dec. 22 regarding a proposed zoning bylaw amendment to accommodate the development of a solid wood waste recycle operation on property in the industrial park, town council will hold another public meeting tonight to accept input on a proposed bylaw to close part of Seventh Street West between Keating Avenue and Wright Avenue in relation to the same project.
This public meeting will be followed by a vote on a bylaw to assume, stop up, and close for the purpose of selling part of Seventh Street West and a lane in the industrial park.
There also will be a vote on a bylaw to amend Zoning Bylaw 08/98 (Lots 3-14, 17-25, and Lot 50 of Plan 48M-353, including the closed portion of Seventh Street West between Wright and Keating Avenue) to permit the property be used for a recycle operation for the grinding and recycling of non-contaminated wood waste products.
The property, located on Eight Street West between Keating and Wright, actually was approved for sale to applicant Mike Carmody back on Nov. 17. But the sale was conditional upon a successful rezoning, as well as the stopping up and closing of a portion of Seventh Street West and an abutting laneway.
The regular council meeting is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m. at the Civic Centre, with the public meeting being the first item on the agenda.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., but is expected to be in-camera until 5:55 p.m.
Other business on tonight’s agenda will include:
•a request from Coun. Ken Perry to review Private Crossings Bylaw No. 32/82;
•a financial and in-kind request from the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship Inc;
•a bylaw to authorize the execution of a letter of understanding with CUPE;
•a bylaw to provide for an interim tax levy in 2009;
•a bylaw to authorize temporary borrowing in 2009;
•a letter from resident William Krukoski suggesting the town develop a snow removal crew as an economic initiative; and
•a list of conferences for mayor and council to attend in 2009.
