A new member of town council will be sworn in by Mayor Roy Avis at tonight’s regular meeting.
Having completed the interview process with the four applicants, council officially will announce who it will appoint to fill the sixth councillor seat.
The four applicants were Joe Galbraith, Arlene Georgeson, Ed Haglund, and Doug Kitowski.
The new councillor will fill the vacancy left by the late Sharon Tibbs.
In other news, the Town of Fort Frances will have a new chief building official (CBO) next month.
Current CBO Rick Hallam, who is retiring effective March 31, will be replaced by Travis Rob, who has been obtaining the necessary qualifications over the past year.
After Hallam retires, Rob will assume the role of CBO, along with his current duties as facility/special project co-ordinator.
Hallam has agreed to be named deputy CBO and be available to work if necessary.
Council will vote tonight to pass a bylaw to appoint a new CBO and deputy CBO.
Tonight’s council meeting is scheduled to start at 6:20 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., but is slated to be in-camera until 5:55.
