Town council is likely to grant a three-metre by three-metre service easement to Bell Canada on the southwest corner of Lot #3 on Williams Avenue in the new Huffman subdivision there.
The easement will contain a Bell pedestal, as well as a Shaw pedestal and Fort Frances Power Corp. transformer.
The infrastructure will be installed as close to the sidewalk as possible so as to limit the impact on the residential lot.
The acquisition is to be completed for a nominal fee of $2.
The Planning and Development executive committee had asked council to approved the proposed service easement and prepare an authorizing bylaw.
This public portion of tonight’s council meeting is slated to start at 6:20 p.m.
The committee of the whole will meet in-camera first starting at 5:30.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•a request from the Royal Canadian Legion—Fort Frances Br. #29 to proclaim Nov. 5-11 as “Poppy Week” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a request from the National Union of Public and General Employees to proclaim Nov. 6 as “Community Social Service Worker Appreciation Day” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a request from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for support of resolutions re: the Future of Canada Post;
•a bylaw to approve a service agreement with Darryl Allan (DA IT Consulting Services) for the provision of information technology services;
•an invitation from Coun. Cynthia Jaksa of the City of International Falls, re: City of International Falls and Town of Fort Frances joint-visit with Jamshed Merchant, Canadian Consul General in St. Paul, Mn., on Nov. 22;
•a request to delete notice of agreement for 1204 Strachan Pl.;
•a recommendation re: a request from the United Native Friendship Centre to perform park clean-up and town to provide assistance;
•a report re: renewal of municipal insurance 2013-14;
•a recommendation re: tickets for Friends of the Fort Frances Museum’s fundraiser gala;
•a recommendation re: a financial request from the Bancroft and Hastings Highlands Disaster Relief Committee;
•a recommendation re: the Fort Frances Community Foundation;
•a travel and per diem claim for Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft for attendance at the Zone 1 Ontario Association of Police Service Boards meeting in Thunder Bay from Oct. 9-11;
•a report re: museum policies (collection management and conservation); and
•a submission of an expression of interest for funding to replace the watermain along Colonization Road West.
