Council facing lengthy agenda

Town council will have a full agenda at its regular meeting tonight, including a trio of presentations on different matters.
Kendall Richardson will give council a petition, on behalf of certain east-end home owners, in support of the investigation and fixing of sewer issues in the neighbourhood south of Scott Street and east of the Sorting Gap Marina.
Council also will hear a presentation by the Senior Retirees Against Pension and Elder Abuse on two subjects: economic stability in Fort Frances and district and Sister Kennedy Centre board policies, procedures, and membership.
As well, council will hear a presentation on recent economic development activities of the Rainy River Future Development Corp. from RRFDC consultant Tannis Drysdale.
The council portion of tonight’s meeting, which will include the three presentations, is scheduled to start at 8:20 p.m.
The committee of the whole will meet first starting at 5 p.m., but will be in-camera (behind closed doors) until 7:20.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a recommendation re: a request for a bike lane on Colonization Road West;
•a report re: selection of two capital projects to apply for funding under the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund and Small Communities Fund;
•a report re: damage to the Hoard family headstone at Riverview Cemetery;
•a request from James and Barb Adair to waive half of the water portion of their water and sewer bills for March-May, 2014;
•a report re: renewal of an airport private hangar lot lease with John Meyers for the next five years;
•a report re: the 2015 budget timetable;
•a recommendation re: a request from the Sunset Country Travel Association;
•minutes of settlement for 1319 Idylwild Dr. (2013-14);
•a recommendation re: a financial request from the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame;
•a travel claim for Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig for attending the AMO conference last month in London, Ont.;
•travel and per diem claims for Mayor Roy Avis and Coun. Paul Ryan for attending AMO;
•an update on capital projects;
•a request from Sean Ahrens re: joining certain properties;
•a letter from T. Parks re: fencing issues;
•a joint request from the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care to proclaim Oct. 29 as “Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a request from the Association des francophones du Nord-Ouest de l’Ontario to proclaim Sept. 25 as “Franco-Ontarian Day” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a bylaw to approve an employment agreement with Dawn Galusha as deputy treasurer for the Town of Fort Frances; and
•a bylaw to rescind Bylaw 14/14 (a bylaw previously passed to submit a question to the electors of the Town of Fort Frances in the 2014 municipal election).
