Council bullets

At last night’s meeting, town council:
•referred a request from Travis and Shanna Weir, re: waiver of sewer main repair costs in front of 1108 Victoria Ave. N., to the Operations and Facilities executive committee for its recommendation, with input from the Administration and Finance executive committee;
•referred a financial request from the Fort Frances Curling Club, re: sponsorship of a luncheon for the NOCA senior provincial playdowns (Feb. 24-27), to the Administration and Finance executive committee for its recommendation;
•referred a request from Evangelical Fellowship Church, re: exemption of calendar parking for purposes of holding religious services, to the Traffic Safety Committee for its recommendation;
•passed a bylaw to authorize the entering into of certain contracts with respect to the provision of janitorial services, including Steve and Anne Barnard (S&A Cleaners) at the library, Bill Nicholson (Nicholson’s Janitorial Services) at the museum, Gord and Cindy Campbell (Courtesy Cleaners) at Public Works, and Tom Piotrowski at the Fort Frances Children’s Complex;
•passed a bylaw to approve an agreement with the Corporation of the Township of Alberton for the ongoing maintenance and repair, and future capital improvements, that may be proposed for Oakwood Road;
•passed a bylaw to amend By-Law No. 16/06 (the water system management bylaw) to add “churches and places of worship” as among properties to have their water use metered; and
•agreed to reschedule the Feb. 28 regular meeting of council to Tuesday, Feb. 22 (this is because several members of council will be at a conference on Feb. 28 while Feb. 21 is Family Day).
