At Monday night’s regular meeting, council:
•approved a report regarding sidewalk run-off issues in front of Wilson’s Business Solutions, stating that during future road rehabilitation projects, the proper slope on the sidewalk will be installed in accordance with provincial standards (the property owner will be responsible for all costs);
•approved a report regarding snow removal in downtown Fort Frances, noting the existing winter control policy remain as it is;
•approved a report stating the town not join the Ministry of Environment’s Transfer of Review program;
•approved a rent increase of 0.7 percent for 2011 for residential property located at 501 Sixth St. W. (a lease agreement for the period of March 1, 2011-Feb. 28, 2012 and authorizing bylaw will be prepared);
•approved revisions to the collection policy;
•agreed to make a donation in the amount of $250 to the “Acts of Kindness Benefit” coming up Friday, Dec. 3 at the local Legion;
•approved a per diem claim for Coun. Tibbs in the amount of $60 (this is for attendance at the Rainy River District Municipal Association meeting on Nov. 4);
•received notice of an open house re: the development of a “blue box” strategy for the Town of Fort Frances on Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Civic Centre;
•supported a resolution passed by the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) for public consultations on caribou habitat regulations;
•supported resolutions from the Townships of Alberton and Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls re: an emergency management field officer;
•agreed to nominate Coun. Andrew Hallikas for appointment as vice-president to the NOMA executive; and
•received notice of a municipal councillor orientation, senior staff development, and regional economic development best practices forum in Sioux Lookout on Nov. 28-30.
