Couchiching holds annual ‘Santa Run’

The Couchiching Volunteer Fire Department held its 28th-annual “Santa Run” there Sunday night, with 300 children receiving a gift this year.
Santa was chauffeured around by a fire truck that was decked out with lights, decorations, presents, and speakers. Three trucks filled with elves and presents followed.
Jan Adams, an education counsellor, helped with handing out the gifts, as did one of her work groups.
“The fire department just decided to do it in 1974 to be more visible in the community,” Fire Chief Curtis Jourdain noted. “This is the big event of the year for us.”
The Education Department and Committee came on board to help 25 years ago. The committee and the band purchase the gifts for every child aged 10 and under on Couchiching.
“It’s worth it when you see the looks on the children’s faces,” said Jourdain.
