As winter approaches, the Fort Frances condominium committee is looking for five more people to sign up to make the project a go.
To date, 25 down payments have been made for the 36 condos–just five shy from a target of 30 down payments necessary for the riverfront development to proceed.
“To be able to start this fall, if it could be determined it’s a go, they certainly would put a shovel in the ground and get at it,” committee member Herb Cridland noted Monday.
The committee will meet Wednesday with developer Penn-Co Construction of Winnipeg to look at whether the project will go ahead–a meeting it hopes to attend with 30 down payments in hand.
“You can do the concrete work until about December and then do the construction all year,” noted Cridland. “But if they don’t do that this year. . . .”
Numerous people have inquired about the condos, which would be built on the corner of Front Street and Crowe Avenue, but seem to be hanging on to their $3,000 down payments until the last minute.
“If there are a couple people out there who are interested and waiting, just get with it,” Cridland urged.
“There’s all kinds of people waiting to see what happens. Unfortunately, they’re waiting for selection, for [choosing] where they want to be.
“There’s only the ones on the back that weren’t sold but it’s just a nice location as far as I’m concerned,” Cridland added. “It’s not a seniors’ place but let’s face it, most the people there are seniors.”
A display of some of the interior designs that has been set up in the building on the northwest corner of Victoria Avenue and Scott Street will be open again Monday from 2-5 p.m. to allow perspective buyers another chance to take a look as the deadline approaches.
All the units include a balcony, and the developer may include underground parking, elevators, boat docks, an exercise room, and party room.
