Condo board finally being dissolved

Town council agreed Tuesday night to officially dissolve Fort Frances Non-Profit Innovative Homes Inc. (FFNPIHI).
The corporation initially was patented on June 16, 1994 to facilitate a condominium housing construction project here.
In July, 2001, the town decided to undertake the River Walk Condominium development on Front Street, and the first meeting was held on Nov. 1, 2001.
The last meeting was held Sept. 27, 2007.
Then on Oct. 2, 2008, the town’s auditor, Jon Evans, recommended that since there were no liabilities for the Fort Frances Non-Profit Innovative Homes, Inc., no assets remained (the last of the 32 units was sold on July 29, 2005), and the bank account was closed on Nov. 8, 2005, no further audits were required.
However, annual corporate income tax returns still were required and have been filed every year, with the latest one completed for the fiscal year ending July 31, 2017.
The town covers this yearly corporate tax filing expense (the 2017 cost was $302.02).
Given it has been 10 years since the last directors’ meeting, and 12 years since the completion of the condo project, town administration prompted council to decide whether to retain or dissolve this non-profit corporation.
The treasurer will have custody of the corporate documents and records for six years after the dissolution date.
Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, held a day later due to the Remembrance Day holiday, council:
•referred a letter from Scott and Tara Hamilton, re: development of land at 1341 Woodward St., to the Planning and Development executive committee for its recommendation;
•agreed to a request from Alicia Pinelli, outreach and education team member of the National Eating Disorder Information Centre, to proclaim the week of Feb. 1-8, 2018 as “Eating Disorder Awareness Week” in the Town of Fort Frances;
