The 23rd-annual Ice Box Days takes place Jan. 16-19 in International Falls, and will wrap up with a musical performance at Backus Auditorium there next Sunday at 3 p.m.
Backus/AB will present a concert by Michael Monroe, whose style of acoustic folk, reggae, and jazz offers audience members not only a performance of varied music but also an opportunity to experience the linking of acoustic music and technology within a live performance.
Monroe is the modern example of the one-man-band. He uses vocals, flutes, and guitar as instruments, then live on stage uses midi looping to create fascinating layers of rhythm and sound.
Other events taking place during Ice Box Days include a pancake breakfast, snowmobile show-and-shine, and the ever-popular “Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run” next Saturday (Jan. 18) as well as a Barrel Sauna and Polar Bear Dip the following day.
