Community Living names poster contest winners

Last month, Community Living Fort Frances and District sponsored a poster contest within schools across the district to promote awareness and inclusion for people with disabilities.
“People with disabilities and people without disabilities live, go to school, work, and play together in their own neighbourhoods,” said Faith Moen, the organization’s communications and public relations co-ordinator, adding students were asked to portray this.
More than 100 entries were received from many elementary schools, including Riverview, Crossroads, Sturgeon Creek, J.W. Walker, St. Michael’s, Huffman, and North Star.
The winners were:
•Grade 1—Trista Brumwell (Riverview)
•Grade 2—Mathew Novak (Huffman)
•Grade 3—Jamie Warren (North Star), Madisyn DeGagne (St. Michael’s). Kaily Greengrass (Crossroads), and Sophie Potvin Begin (St. Michael’s)
•Grade 4—Madison Smith (Crossroads)
•Grade 5—Sabrina Miller (J.W. Walker), Kelvin Croswell (Sturgeon Creek), Alyce Ewald (J.W. Walker), and Jessie Niskanen (North Star)
•Grade 6—Doug Caul (Sturgeon Creek)
Anyone in Grades 1-8 were eligible for the contest, although Moen noted no entries were received from students in the higher two grades.
The winning posters will be printed on note cards and sold as a package at Good Impressions Printing for the holiday season.
The winning posters, along with a sample of some of the entries, are now posted in the window at Betty’s of Fort Frances.
“We are really excited at the amount of entries we received from the students,” enthused Moen. “And we thank them for their participation.”
