Community Christmas dinner trimming up

If you haven’t bought your turkey yet, or are looking for an alternative to cooking up a feast Christmas Day, you’re invited to share in the annual community dinner, organizer Dodi DeBenedet said.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Christmas Community Dinner is slated Dec. 25 from noon and 2 p.m. at Knox United Church here.
The festive event, which usually attracts about 180 people, features a full-course dinner complete with turkeys and hams and all the fixin’s.
And although the food donations are rolling in, a few items still remain on the “needed” list, DeBenedet said.
“It’s shaping up very well but I still need things like brown buns, ice cream, sugar lumps, dainties, tin foil, and Saran wrap,” she noted, adding the list of volunteers who will help out at the event also is growing.
DeBenedet also said those residents who want to have a Christmas meal delivered to their home can call her at 274-5917.
The Christmas “Meals on Wheels” trays will be filled at Knox United starting at 10:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, with deliveries beginning around 11.
