Community choir to perform here tonight

Festive sounds will fill the air at St. Mary’s Church this evening when the Rainy River Community Choir stages its 11th-annual “Music and Readings for the Christmas Season.”
“It will be a mix of old and new Christmas songs,” said choir director Stephanie Hawkins. “We’ll even have a Calypso Christmas number.”
The choir, which features about 30 members, also will be accompanied on some songs by flutist Katie Gale and violist Phyllis Evans.
“They’ll give the music a little spice,” said Hawkins.
Vocalist Renee Martin-Brown also will perform at least one solo number.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m., with the doors opening at 7. Hawkins noted the concert should last between 75-90 minutes.
Tickets cost $7 for adults and $4 for students, which are available at the Fort Frances Public library and at the door.
“Usually, we have quite a big audience. I think it will be the same this time around,” Hawkins remarked.
This will be the second of three concerts by the Rainy River Community Choir this Christmas season. The first was held this past Tuesday in Pinewood.
The final concert is slated for next Friday (Dec. 10) at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Rainy River.
Tickets for that show are available at Rainy River Drugs.
