Tonight will be the first meeting of the month for the Fort Frances council. The second and final one of the month will be on March 22.
Aaron Bisson, recreation and culture manager, submitted a request for consideration to have the Sorting Gap Marina leased to a for profit organization.
In a report submitted to council, Bisson said the operations at the Sorting Gap Marina do not necessarily fit well within the Community Services Division as this service is better suited to be operated by a for profit business, Bisson adds.
If council approves this report, the Community Service Division will prepare a request for proposal to seek interested parties to lease the Sorting Gap Marina.
Council will also communicate the decision that was reached on whether to waive $1,060 in late tax fees to Energy Fitness. Last council meeting, Jackie Lampi-Hughes, owner of Energy Fitness, requested that council waive the late tax fees. She said she has paid her taxes in full, but needed a break due to lack of business and restriction on the numbers of patrons allowed indoors.
Dawn Galusha, town treasurer, submitted a report for approval from council to have no further action besides accepting the letter.
In the report, Galusha said the Administration and Finance Executive Committee never waived interest fees on taxes before, and in fairness to other taxpayers, no action should be taken on this request. Galusha adds that there have been grant opportunities available for businesses.
On the agenda are also three letters submitted from Nathalie Donaldson, Nicole D.S. Miller and Treaty 3 Oshikiniigiig Youth Executive Council on the renaming of Colonization Road. All letters will be referred to the Planning & Development Executive Committee for inclusion in the collection of comments on renaming Colonization Road.
Council will also announce the appointment of Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft to the Fort Frances Senior Board and the appointment of Tammy Ryll, Coordinator, Rainy Lake Chiefs Secretariat to the Economic Development Executive Committee.
Town council meetings are open to the public online through the Microsoft Teams platform or the public can phone-in. To access a town council meeting, follow the instructions at the top of the agenda you would like to attend, posted at www.fortfrances.ca or call 807-274-5323 for assistance.
