College, school board reach lease agreement

In a last-minute attachment to the agenda of the Rainy River District School Board’s regular monthly meeting here Tuesday night, the board announced it had reached an agreement to extend its lease with Confederation College.
“We have successfully completed our negotiations regarding the lease with Confederation College,” reported Laura Mills, the board’s chief financial officer.
She noted the two outstanding issues hampering negotiations regarded parking and smoking. Confederation College had requested more parking, but it was determined the parking already allotted in the lease would remain the same.
As for the smoking, it finally was agreed that the board and the leasee would “meet annually to discuss a suitable policy on smoking,” but that the board’s position would always prevail.
The current smoking policy was not revealed.
