College graduation set to go tonight

Nineteen students will have their big moment Thursday as Confederation College here holds its graduation ceremony at 5 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre.
The grads represent a good range of the programs the college offers, campus manager Don Lovisa said Thursday morning.
“We have five classes graduating this year–early childhood education, general arts and sciences, computer programming analysis, professional office administration, and computer application support specialist,” he noted.
Lovisa added the number of grads is about the same as last year.
He also said this will be the first appearance of new Confederation College president Patricia Lang at a graduation here. She assumed the position last July.
And last year’s Dean’s Medal recipient, Ann Cox, will be on hand to give an inspirational speech to the graduating class.
Cox had graduated from the college with a human resources administration degree, and currently is employed at the Northwest Catholic District School Board.
Lovisa noted he was thrilled to once again get to use the Townshend Theatre as a venue.
“It’s wonderful. It allows our graduates to have a full audience,” he enthused, adding about 100 guests are expected this evening.
Before last year, the graduation ceremony was held in a classroom at the college.
Lovisa mentioned that while planning for grad, he took a look at some of its history at the college here.
“This is the 112th graduation since 1968. There’s 22,000 Confederation College alumni out there,” he said. “It’s amazing.”
