The local Cyclone Swim Club will be helping to get people into the Christmas spirit by assisting with gift-wrapping downtown.
Member Kim Kelly brought the idea to the board as a fundraiser for the club, as well as to help promote it.
“We are going to be at McTaggarts wrapping gifts for donations,” she said.
“It will be for customers from McTaggarts and Taggs Source for Sports.
“We were just looking for something different for a fundraiser,” Kelly added, noting people are getting tired of the same fundraisers.
Kelly said not only will the club hopefully raise some money, but also be able to give people a hand with their wrapping at a very busy time of year.
She admitted the idea was scaled down.
The club initially had been hoping to hold the gift-wrapping fundraiser in front of the Fort Frances Museum and do it for all downtown customers.
“But then when you start looking for volunteers and time, and thinking about the weather, we got down-sized,” Kelly noted.
“Then Richard Boileau offered for us to do it in his store,” she said.
Gift-wrappers will be at McTaggarts beginning tomorrow through to closing on Christmas Eve.
“It’s going to be parents taking on the gift-wrapping,” Kelly stressed, conceding she’s not sure if any of the club’s young swimmers have the skills to wrap just yet.
“We’re hoping to raise some money to buy lane ropes and arm poles, and things like that for the swimmers,” she added.
“We’re just hoping people come out and support us,” Kelly said.
“We’re trying to support the ‘shop local, swim local’ kind of thing.
“We’re just trying to raise awareness about the swim club,” she reiterated.
“We’re trying to be out there and be visible.”
