The United Native Friendship Centre is hosting its semi-annual clothing giveaway next week and still is accepting donations.
“We do this to make sure everyone has appropriate clothes for the seasons,” said Karly Rousseau, an aboriginal family support worker, noting right now they’ll be focusing on warm clothing.
“We want to make sure children, and adults, too, are going to be dressed warmly this winter,” she remarked.
While they are accepting donations at their Mowat Avenue location until Thursday, Rousseau said they already have received plenty of clothing.
“It’s awesome—there are so many people in the community who want to donate,” she enthused.
“Sometimes they don’t know what to do with clothes they no longer want or need so they are happy to donate.”
The clothing giveaway then will be held next Monday (Oct. 6) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and again Tuesday (Oct. 7) from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 616 Mowat Ave. (use the First Street East entrance).
Rousseau said name brand clothing items, Hallowe’en costumes, and winter jackets will be available.
“We have a couple of organizations that are gathering coats and other winter clothing for us and sending it our way, so we will have lots,” she stressed, adding the clothing giveaway is open to everyone.
“Our focus is on people who need it but we are not going to turn anyone away,” Rousseau said.
“We really hope people come out and utilize this service.”
