‘Clean Sweep’ cancelled again

Anyone who was planning to turn up on Scott Street this evening and participate in the Business Improvement Area’s inaugural “Downtown Clean Sweep” can put their brooms away—it’s been postponed until further notice due to the unseasonable weather.
“‘Operation Clean Sweep’? How about ‘Operation Snowman,’” BIA chair Ted DeBenetti remarked this morning. “I’ve never seen a May like this.”
“Clean Sweep” originally was scheduled to go last Thursday but was called off due to the cool, overcast weather.
The purpose of this “spring cleaning” event is for the public to come down to Scott Street and help business owners sweep clean the sidewalks.
The Rainy Lake Hotel and Robin’s Donuts were to pitch in with coffee, juice, and doughnuts for all participants.
If it ever gets off the ground, DeBenetti said “Clean Sweep” could become an annual event.
The idea came from local BIA reps who had attended the inaugural meeting of the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association back in March.
But rain or shine, the BIA is welcoming shoppers to come down to Scott Street this Saturday for a special Mother’s Day promotion.
From 11 a.m.-2 p.m., BIA volunteers will be handing out free carnations for Mom on the streets, which also will be decorated with balloons.
“Come out and shop downtown Fort Frances, and show your Mom you care,” said DeBenetti.
