There will be lots of reminiscing and fun happening this coming Saturday (July 16) at the local Legion when former classmates who attended Westfort High School 30 years ago get together to reconnect.
“We’ve had a good response,” the organizers noted. “We’ve got classmates coming from eastern Ontario, Manitoba, Wisconsin, Northwestern Ontario and, of course, the Rainy River District.”
A couple of former teachers also will be in attendance.
“Our memories might be a bit different than theirs,” chuckled Teresa Hazel, one of the party planners.
Although the dinner is restricted to the Class of 1980-81 only, and the advance tickets no longer are available, there will be a social to follow that is open to anyone who couldn’t make it for dinner or who attended Westfort any others years.
“We’ve had a few people asking whether they could come for the social and not the dinner, and friends who weren’t in our class, so we thought, what the heck–the more, the merrier,” explained Hazel.
The doors for the social will open at 9 p.m., with a $10 cover charge that includes a midnight lunch and dancing to music played by popular ’80s DJ, “The Jet”–Rockin’ Rod Armit.
“I’m really looking forward to playing a social in Fort Frances,” enthused Armit, who now lives in Dryden.
“It’s been a long time and it’s going to be great playing music from that era,” he added.
