Christmas tree pick-up tomorrow

The Fort Frances Fire Brigade will be making the rounds Saturday afternoon for its annual Christmas tree pick-up.
“We’ll start around 2 p.m.,” Fire Chief Steve Richardson said Friday morning. “We’d like to tell the public to make sure you have your tree right at the curb, and make sure they’re visible.
“We missed some last year because people wrapped their trees in white plastic and they blended in with the snow,” he noted.
“Although that’s likely this year,” he quipped.
Chief Richardson added the public is encouraged to give a donation when their tree is picked up. They can give it to a firefighter, leave it in their mailbox, or drop by the fire hall.
The brigade has not yet picked a charity to which any donations will be given, he noted.
Last year, the firefighters donated about $1,000 to Riverside Foundation for Health Care’s “Care Close to Home” campaign.
Unlike some other years, Chief Richardson said the weather likely will be “merciful” to the pick-up crews this time around. “It sounds like it’s going to be a great day,” he remarked.
